Modest Mouse's combination of affected vocals and post-Pixies arrangements made them a success. They recorded three records on independent record labels, including one on K, before signing to Epic Records in 2000. Singer Isaac Brock -- he with the Tourette's vocals -- came up with his band name after reading a Virginia Woolf story. Brock had a few side-projects over the years, including one called Ugly Casanova. The band worked the underground for years before scoring a huge radio hit with 2004's "Float On."
