AVAILABLE NOW!!!!!
Soon after announcing his retirement from Nerf Herder at the end of 2003, front man Parry Gripp was forwarded an email from an advertising firm who was looking for a song to help promote some kind of frozen waffles that came with their own dipping sauce. “My interest was peaked by the project’s complete absurdity (and the mention of $20,000).” My first attempt was, Do You Like Waffles, which I wrote in about five minutes. Bingo, I felt I was at the top of my game and for the first time in a while, I was really enjoying writing music.” So much so, Parry has come up with For Those About To Shop, We Salute You, his first solo CD featuring over 50 little ditties, in various musical styles that will have you either rolling on the floor or give you a serious case of the munchies.
Press:
For Those About to Shop is an inspired piece of work. I'm smitten with Parry's solo debut on the grounds that it is juvenile and
pointless and wonderful.

Here is perhaps the best-conceived album of the year. Parry Gripp is the frontman for geek-punk band Nerf Herder, and the concept came to him two years ago when he was commissioned to write a jingle for a kids’ frozen waffle product (the pop-punk “Do You Like Waffles?,” track 27 out of the 51 tunes on this album). The ditty was never used, but he enjoyed writing it so much that he began writing more like it, in varying styles and for a variety of generic products. Here, Leon Redbone pitches pop (“You Ain’t Never Drank No Soda Like This One Here”), fat-era Elvis urges shoppers to attend a big sale before it ends (“Don’t Wait Too Long”) and Johnny Cash improbably sings about feminine hygiene products in “That Ain’t Fresh” (as in, “You may be a beauty queen/But you smell like my latrine/That ain’t fresh”). Each song is jingle-length, and the tunes move from one to the next with little or no pause, just like on radio. If only he’d written a jingle promoting the album itself, he’d have the perfect recording — but it isn’t far from perfect as it is.
